This post covers a sample letter from an employer to excuse an employee from Jury duty.
A citizen is required to serve on a jury for a set amount of time in order to participate in a legal panel in court and to help determine the case’s outcome. This is known as jury duty.
Jury service is one of the most important civic duties you can perform. The protection of rights and liberties in federal courts largely is achieved through the teamwork of a judge and jury.-uscourts
The names of residents who are eligible to serve on juries are drawn at random from a list of the district’s registered voters and drivers. The district courts each make this choice.
The chosen individuals will then respond to a questionnaire to ascertain their suitability for jury service.
A random selection process is used to choose qualified individuals for jury duty summonses.

Excuses from Jury Duty
The 94 federal district courts each have their own jury selection processes and rules for jury excuses.
On an individual basis, several courts grant exemptions from jury duty to certain demographic groupings or professional categories;
- People who are over 70 age
- people and have served on a federal jury within the last two years
- People who volunteer as firefighters, rescuers, or ambulance crew members
- etc.
According to the US Jury law, a juror may also be excused from serving at the time of summons if doing so would cause “undue hardship or extreme inconvenience.”
To do this, the juror must submit a letter to the court clerk outlining the difficulty and asking for an excuse.
Juror excuses are granted at the court’s discretion and are not subject to review or appeal to Congress or any other body.
There is a moment when your employee is qualified and required to serve as a jury while at the same time he/she has a vital duty to work on.
As a result, you decide to write a formal letter to excuse him/her from jury duty.
The hardest part is you can only excuse your employee from jury duty only under special circumstances.
To simplify the hardest part, here I will share with you sample letters from employers to excuse employees from Jury duty to help you learn how to write a perfect professional letter to exclude your employee from jury duty.
let’s get started

Re: Request John Smith, Juror No. 712343 to be excused from jury duty
We are writing this letter on behalf of John Smith, our employee, Senior credit analyst, who has been summoned to paper before your court to serve as a jury on 10/01/2030 at 8:00 am.
The purpose of this letter is to humbly request your honorable court to excuse John Smith from jury duty due to the following reasons
- He is dealing with a very complex and profitable overdraft facility deal that no one can do it properly because he is the only expert in our institution and if this deal will not well be conducted it will have a very negative impact both financially and on our institution’s reputation.
- Our leave policy does not include compensation for jury duty leave, this will. John Smith has clearly declared to us that the loss of wages will cause him and his family financial hardship.
On his behalf, we respectfully urge that he be excused from jury duty. We appreciate your consideration of our unusual circumstances.
We’ll be waiting for your response to our request.
Please contact me at 198-233-3333 if you have any questions or if we need to supply any additional information.
Sincerely

Re: Request Hellen Michael, Juror No. 712300 to be excused from jury duty
We are Hellen Michael’s employer, and she has received a summons from your Honorable court dated 01/01/2030, ordering her to appear for jury service on 11/01/2030 at 8:00 a.m.
Due to the corona pandemic, her presence is essential throughout the weekdays in our Hospital so that she can attend to all emergencies and take care of a big number of patients. Our hospital only has a few doctors, so if she goes to jury duty, we won’t be able to handle the enormous number of corona patients.
We’ve talked about it extensively with her. We recognize the value and necessity of jury duty. However, she has informed us that he would like to be excused from jury duty due to the pandemic circumstances.
We kindly ask that he be exempted from jury duty on her behalf. We appreciate your consideration of our unusual circumstances. We’ll be waiting for your response to our request.
Please contact me at 198-111-1111 if you have any questions or if we need to supply any additional information.
Sincerely
